The Great Debaters / Sean Bell
The film, based on a true story, revolves around the efforts of debate coach Melvin B. Tolson (Denzel Washington) at historically black Wiley College to place his team on equal footing with whites in the American south during the 1930s, when lynch mobs and Jim Crow laws abounded. The Wiley team eventually succeeds to the point at which they are able to take part in a debate with Harvard University. ~ Wikipedia
Denzel of course delivers and really as you wishing that you had such driven and inspirational professors. Forrest Whitaker another Academy Award winner also portrays the hard working father that of course has to deal with the many trying issues a black father has to face during the 1930's. They unsurprisingly do not surprise anyone with their superior acting; it is the young actors that really bring the emotions dripping down your face. (I really almost cried) Denzel Whitaker (not Forrest's son), Nate Parker, and Jurnee Smollett are the real stories of the movie. The fairly newcomers cause you to grow to love their characters and feel like you experienced the journey with them. Jurnee Smollet, better known for Eve's Bayou and Roll Bounce, is a very believable Southern bell with spice and wit that leaves a permanent emotional connection with you. Nate Parker (also in Pride which I didn't see sorry) is the strong intelligent black man that is rarely depicted in movies today. Never saw him before? Well he will impress you his ability to switch it up: eloquent debater to rugged fighter. The youngest of the main cast Denzel Whitaker (of All That... the new corny one) is the innocent "little brother" character that your heart goes out for time and time again throughtout the movie. Therefore by the end of the movie when you see his growth you feel a since of pride in him. I CLEARLY enjoyed it and is inspired to do better with the opportunities that I have. Go see it. Below is a clip of one of the MANY powerful scenes.
Connection...
It amazes me that we can care less about the s*** that doesn't matter and rant all day about the bull! If you didn't know the cops responsible for the Sean Bell shooting were of ALL charges. The Great Debaters shows the bull we have been going through for a long time now and for some reason we don't care about that s*** or what goes on now. Its crazy how we have everything to say about bulls*** like 50 cent beefing with everybody but nothing to say about a an injustice like this s*** with Sean Bell. But does this all mean? It means that the black man's (and woman's) life isn't worth nothing what you going to do about it? I have no master plan to change this but I know people need to get their s*** right, fast. If a man can get shot at 50 times and the people responsible can walk, it's crazy out there. Although commenting about this doesn't change the situation or all the issues we have, I choose to comment on the s*** that matters instead of the s*** that doesn't. Change won't come from marching, it comes from changing the the things wrong with us to change the world. Self-reflexion before marching and yelling.

Lack of Female MCs with Lil' Mama
There is some truth with what she's talkin but "ya lip gloss be poppin"? But like she said she was seventeen but where did the females that were hot and respected go? Lyte is up and age and irrelevant, Queen is acting singing and Lauryn is popping out babies somewhere.. Since the ones that were hot are nowhere to be found the only thing that young female MCs look up to are the male MCs and what they say about females. (its late cant jabber for too long just something I was thinking)

Black History Center Stage: Black Cowboys
This blog is not only for displaying new music, videos, and Black Cloud. All that I do is Black History. I am one of those that kinda depises Black History Month because why do we get attention only for a month then we are secluded until the next shortest month. So yeah I will try to shed let on the beautiful things that we have contributed to this nation and the world. This first one is an article that I stumbled upon about the Black Cowboys. Yeah we were cowboys before we wore blue and white uniforms for Jerry Jones. And look up Nat Love, he was a bad dude.

Nikki Jean & BlackCloud
@ Torcadero
So yeah, last night I went (well tried to) go to Nouveau Riche (Nikki Jean's group) concert down Center City at Torcadero. The plan was to give Nikki the new stuff and some of the old as well. BUT the corny dude at the door put that plan to a halt and would not let us enter only because we weren't 21 ("we" myself and my homie Ciara). But we're from New Jersey so we don't quit so we waited (all of 20 mins). She came, I introduced myself and remembered who I was or at least BlackCloud. Talked for a lil bit and I gave her the new stuff, she said she liked it ( I smiled, lol) and eventually we had to go our seperate ways. But it was a good night. But who knew it would be two in a row. Look for yourself :D (I'm really smiling).

Movie Review: "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"
Struggling musician Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) has spent six years idolizing his girlfriend, television star Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell). While writing a Muppet-type Dracula musical, he's the guy left holding her purse in paparazzi photos and accidentally omitted from acceptance award speeches. Things take a twist when she breaks up with him, and Peter suddenly finds himself alone. After an unsuccessful bout of womanizing and an on-the-job nervous breakdown, he sees that not having Sarah may just ruin his life.
To clear his head, Peter takes an impulsive trip to Oahu, where he is confronted by his worst nightmare: Sarah and her tragically-hip, new British-rocker boyfriend, Aldous (Russell Brand), are staying at his hotel. As he torments himself with the reality of Sarah's new life, he finds relief when flirting with Rachel (Mila Kunis), a beautiful resort employee whose laid-back approach tempts him to rejoin the world.
-Wikipedia
Thanks to Temple's MCPB I got a chance to view Forgetting Sarah Marshall at a free screening last night. The movie is just funny. The producer, Judd Apatow, does it again. (He produced Superbad, Knocked Up, The 40 Year Old Virgin, etc.) I like his work and didn't really notice tell I looked him up for this post. From the beginning to the end, just good comedy. The writer and star, Jason Sigel, is successful wearing both hats in this romantic comedy. It's a true (and exaggerated) depiction of the break-up we've all been through and that's why it's good. There's something about tall weird (not really handsome) white dudes that's funny (Will Farrel, Vince Vaughn).
Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), who plays Sarah Marshall, is the dumb person that we have all been in a relationship with and try to "forget". Mila Kunis (That 70's Show), is the sweet and beautiful lady at the front desk that we wish we met on vacation that understands us and that we fall in love with. This movie acknowledges the awkwardness of break-ups, displays our story ending and makes us laugh (sometimes too loud, lol) throughout. i really like this movie and would pay to see it and maybe even get the DVD. Go see it. it hits theaters April 18. Rating: 5 BlackClouds (lol)
*Rating: 1 BlackCloud - Shouldn't even get the bootleg, 2 BlackClouds - Poor multiple levels, 3 BlackClouds - Had potential to be really good.. not quite there, 4 Blacklouds - Solid movie.. go see, 5 BlackClouds - Good enough to pay for you and your dat

"I'm Blooded! Soowoop!"
(Its a movie so its long but DEF. a great movie)
1st off the internet is crazy. It amazes me how easy I found a link to the movie, man. But being away in Philadel I am very much out of touch with the happenings of my real home, Jersey. During visits I get brief updates about a few things and rarely is the news good. Those in the Philadelphia area know all too well about the 1-2 deaths a day in this beautiful-ugly city. But where I'm from things are just as bad if not worse. I'm from, born and raised in Newark and East Orange, New Jersey and I love it to death.
Even still we have our issues. Philadelphia is a large city and the numbers speak for themselves but Newark (& East Orange) is a small city and the numbers are bad ass well and getting worse. I didn't do too much research but Philly murders are (presumably) over drugs and various or reasons. Newark's are more so due to gang violence. We have Bloods and Crips (along with others) and they are the cause of the majority of the murders.
I from time to time ponder why things are the way are and sometimes I gain an understanding and sometimes I'm completely baffled. The major issue is poverty. Which is stemmed from lack of proper education for the most part. During my moments of deep thought I commonly return to the same question: Why are we alining ourselves with an organization that we have no real connection with? Bloods and Crips started in California and Jersey has had it gangs before the Double I Bloods reached East Orange in 1993 but why has this continued and gotten worse exponentially since? The movie Bastards of the Party answers so many questions and tells the truth about every aspect of gang life. Honestly, I cried when I first saw it. So many of the faces in the movie are people that I know and its a crazy to me. Like Bone (the person responsible for the movie) I feel compelled to do something about it so one thing is here I am going to school so I can provide opportunities for others where I'm from. Watch the movie when you get a chance it really is a special movie.

Estelle ~ Sunshine Album Review
The Homeschool Records signee (John Legend's record company), Estelle, has captured many hearts (well mine at least) with her single "American Boy". It is crazy how people not from here notice the beauty within us and then we see how wonder we really are. "American Boy makes me feel good about be from here well Jersey at least and she doesn't even mention Jersey. But the album def. doesn't drop the ball. The opening track " Wait a Mnute" although it may receive to Floetry for its singing and rapping feel, Estelle definitely distinguishes are herself from her fellow London mates. (Wil.I.Am starts the album off right) "Shine" and "Pretty Please" continue the soultry deliverance with the help of Swizz Beatz on the boards and Cee-Lo Green. "You Are" is a gem. One of my favorites on the album as the signer, John Legend, assists the new comer and puts his "John" on the track. You like JL you like this song.
The next two tracks "Back In Love" and " More than Friends" will have everyone reminiscing on their own love tales and deliver. May sound a lil Corrine Bailey Rae at a few notes but not enough to really notice of care. Oh, one half of Floetry actually shows up on "More Than Friends" just minutes i spoke them up. Then the London lass takes a trip to the Caribbean and gives us a couple Bob Marley mellow (maybe blaze for those that smoke) music that you can really feel. Then Estelle gets back on her B-Girl s*** with the summer tale of a females dream with "In The Rain" and the real good hip hop with Wyclef and Jean Grae featured "So Much Out The Way". The final tracks ends the album with everyones main concern of a relationship "No Substitute Love" cause no one wants to be the side piece!.... The album is tough. Just as a hand full are "helping" preserve the adored art of hip hop,Estelle are definitely doing her part to save hip hop and RnB. Enjoy the playlist and BUY the album.
I COULD give you a download link but BUYING music keeps GOOD music coming. Enjoy this playlist as it may not be here long.
